Epidemiology
Critical for our clients is to clearly understand the relationship between the development of disease or death from disease and exposure to their product or chemical. The criteria established by our epidemiologists will provide our clients the insight as to whether or not the human population or sub-population is more likely to be affected because of the exposure than those who were not exposed. Integrating this information with other studies and assessments allow our health scientists to deduce whether a particular individual has the disease because they were exposed.
The Sapphire Group's epidemiologists are highly experienced with cancer incidence, prevalence, and clusters, acute effects such as sensitization, microbial risks and impacts on reproductive and developmental outcomes.
We have investigated the impacts of:
- Disinfection of drinking water, pools, and spas - chlorination/disinfection byproducts
- Pesticides
Oxygenates/fuel additives
- Chemicals in ambient & indoor air
- Compounds used in manufacturing processes
- Carbonless copy paper ETS (environmental tobacco smoke)
The Sapphire Group’s epidemiologists provide a full range of customized services including the design of investigations, data collection, oversight of data collection, and provision of weight of evidence to determine whether or not links to disease actually exist.
Our assessments are conducted in conformity with state-of-the-art guidance of the National Academy of Science, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR).
