Informed Scientific
Decision-Making
The Sapphire Group promotes
the use of science and research in the formation of public policy. This support
is accomplished by developing and analyzing new scientific theories, data, and
models needed to properly assist policy makers in their decisions, placing the
data into context for such decision-makers, and properly communicating the
information so that all parties understand the relevance to public policy. For
example, many times public policy is formed based on data or models that are
out-dated. In those instances The Sapphire Group works to keep abreast of the
newest data and innovations in science, along with having a sound grasp of
fundamental integral science. Doing so provides policy makers with the most
unbiased, accurate, comprehensive, and up-to-date information on environmental
and/or public health issues, their meaning, and limitations so the risks,
uncertainties, and consequences of their actions are fully understood. A
secondary objective is to educate decision-makers regarding policy programs and
activities, which could be improved with evidence-based science.
The
Sapphire Group has vast experience in conducting scientific research and
analysis of issues related to science and public policy, including environmental
health, regulations related to pollution, occupational medicine and industrial
hygiene, and human risk and exposure assessment. Equally important to a sound
understanding of the science is the company’s experience with applying such
scientific data and knowledge directly toward public policy. We utilize
interdisciplinary research of policy relevance on toxicology, epidemiology,
exposure, toxicokinetics, mode of action and human relevance, and modeling to
emphasize the linkage between these scientific data and social and economic
issues such as production, transport, consumption, growth, demographic change,
and public health.
