Occupational Health/Industrial Hygiene

The Sapphire Group provides customized occupational health services that include identification of toxic substances at the work site, assessment of toxicity, exposure, the nature and extent of risk, evaluation of the health status of employees, development of control to deal with regulatory policy issues, proposed standards, variances from standards, and enforcement procedures.

The Sapphire Group integrates elements of industrial hygiene, toxicology, epidemiology, and occupational medicine in a unique approach. Each element has specific responsibilities to ensure that our client's Occupational Health Program actively identifies, prioritizes, and solves health-related problems. We do this by:

  • Understanding issues of concern
  • Identifying toxic risks and segregating them from relatively safe contact with substances in the work place
  • Providing surveillance of employee health status
  • Developing tolerable levels of exposure where none exist
  • Communicating accurate information about chemical dangers as part of exposure prevention programs
  • Structuring cost-effective exposure prevention practices.

 Occupational Health Services Integration examples:

  • Toxicological support to generate scientifically credible data on the toxic properties of a client’s raw materials, intermediates or byproducts, to assess the health risks based on known human doses, and to formulate achievable workplace standards
  • Epidemiological surveillance programs to assure employee safety and to provide management with early warnings of occupational disease
  • Development of private health limits
  • Scientific judgment on the merits of employee allegations of health impairments based on a causation analysis to determine the strength of association
